Introduction

diaryfull2.gif (45620 bytes)

This hand-written diary,  by an elder of Hutchesontown United Presbyterian Church, Glasgow,  covers a period of just over one year from September 1853 until October 1854.  It records the author's thoughts and attitudes as well as giving an account of his pastoral visitations to the members within his district.  Containing as it does many names and addresses and other related family details of the parishioners the diary is not only of interest to Church historians but also offers a potential source for genealogical research.  Its tantalizing brevity equally raises as many questions as it answers and  we therefore welcome contributions from anyone with relevant information - no matter how speculative - so that we can add  more substance and detail to this intriguing snapshot in time.

Navigation of the site is quite straight forward the various sections being briefly.
